ゾエアは深海に棲息する生物である。幼体のゾエアは、その体表が多くの生物の骸で覆われており、また、補給する食物も全て死し腐敗したものばかりである。その為か、海に棲む他の生物がゾエアを捕食することは無い。しかしまた、その気性からか自ら他の生物を傷つけることは決して無く、ゆえに何も食さず自然に餓死する個体も多い。更に、魚類とは異なり両の足で海中を移動する為、海満に落ち命を落とす個体や、誤って陸へ上がり呼吸出来ずに事切れる個体が後を絶たない。
At the bottom of the sea live the Zoea. Young Zoea are protected by shells made of the carcasses of other creatures and feed only on the dead. Many die young from falling into deep trenches, unwittingly climbing the shore, or starvation.

[深海王]ゾエア [Deep Sea] Zoea
ゾエアは、自ら他の生物を傷つける事は無い。ゆえにその個体の多くが幼生の内に、餓死によって命を落とす。が、極稀に運良く数百年の長い年月を生き残り、その姿を次の段階へと変化させる個体が現れる。その段に至ったゾエアの個体は、体を覆っていた他の生物の骸が剥がれ落ち、それと同時に頭部の結晶が強い光を放つ。ゆえに、他の生物に捕食される機会が飛躍的に多くなるが、しかしそれこそゾエアの罠。気性のゆえに、進化の果てに、辿り生まれた唯一の生存方法である。
The Zoea are peaceful, and therefore many die young. Those that live for centuries shed their shells and emit a bright light from their heads. This attracts more prey, but it is in the service of the only method of survival the Zoea know.

[海醒王]ゾエア [Complete] Zoea
ゾエアの頭部に存在する結晶化した体外器官。それが放つ強い光は深海に棲む数多の生物を誘き寄せるだけで無く、その身の自由を完全に奪い、やがて死に至らしめる特性を持つ。つまり成体とまでなったゾエアは、深海におきただそこに在るだけで自らの捕食対象を得る事が出来る。しかし、その体性はある状況を経る事で、更なる成長、或いは変化を遂げる。その状況とは同結晶器官の捕食。即ちゾエアが、ゾエアの死骸をその体内へと摂り入れる事により、最後の深化は達成される。
The Zoea's head features a crystallized external organ. It emits a powerful light that lures and spellbinds the creatures of the deep before leading them to the mouth of the Zoea, allowing the creature to live even if it stays put in one place. There is one last stage in the growth of the Zoea, and it only occurs on one condition: When a Zoea eats the body of one of its own.
